Hubs and I are going to GenCon in 2019. I suggested that we could do a cosplay together. We were going to do a Steampunk thing, but after I'd bought the patterns he decided he's not entirely comfortable with Steampunk.
'Kay. So, maybe 1920s, Lovecraftian type characters? But we've already got the patterns.
So. We've settled on the original 19th century patterns, but also a bit of Lovecraftian stuff, as inspired by one of my fave authors: Jordan L Hawk. I'll be Ketoi, or at least a fish-person, and he'll carry a mystic rock and do elder sign tatts on his face and hands.
I'm thinking if I do back fins, that slide into an extra channel in my corset, and split the back of the shirtwaist so they can stick out, like a fish person who is trying to adapt to human clothing. Toying with design ideas today. I'd love to have the fins be articulated, similar to the backfin on a sunfish, so I can make them lie down or stick up.
The whole thing with the fins came about because of the hat I want to wear. My hair is extremely short; not at all in keeping with the era. But I'm not sure the hat will fit over a wig. So...I'm gonna...shave my head. And maybe find a way to make gills on my neck, depending on how I can make that work with the neckline of the shirtwaist.
Edited to fix a typo
